Prospects

By holding the State Garden Show 2004, the City of Trier foresees a lasting developmental impulse in reshaping the former military installation on the Petrisberg.

The State Garden Show wishes to contribute to the future quality of city life on the developmental area Petrisberg and the neighboring areas of the city and to build the foundation for a high-quality recreational area.

After nearly 70 years of military use, the Petrisberg is to become an important link between the city in the valley, the city on the hill, and the University. The city expects the State Garden Show to continue to provide decisive impulses in the competition among the European regions.

Trier presents itself as an innovative, modern, development-friendly city with a cultural profile as well as very good leisure and recreational facilities. Through the temporary use of future areas for exhibition purposes, a presentation forum for the entire state of Rhineland-Palatinate will come into existence in the year-long School Garden.

In addition, the City of Trier wishes to preserve its history for the future. For the State Garden Show, this means infrastructure investment in environmental, landscape, and natural structure; improvement in city planning; measures to promote local lore and traditional customs; international relations (cross-border event in cooperation with the super-region Saar/Lor/Lux – Rhineland-Palatinate – Wallonia, Belgium); preservation of cultural, artistic, and architectural heritage; education; science and technology; research and development; etc.
