As it says in the history books, Trier was founded by the Roman Emperor Augustus as “Augusta Treverorum” in 17 BC. In 1984, Trier celebrated the 2000th anniversary of the city’s founding. Almost no other city in the country is so full of history as Germany’s oldest city. During the State Garden Show, we will attempt to treat this topic with sensitivity. This idea begins with a documentation of the military history of the Petrisberg, an important strategic point from the earliest period. Of course, we will emphasize for the visitor that a visit to the Old City is most certainly a worthwhile experience, but some of the city’s history will be found on the Garden Show site. The visitor who comes to Trier only for the Garden Show will soon see that Trier has so much more to offer than colorful flowers. Wait and see . . . .
